"the speedy gleams the darkness swallow'd..."

My most recent immersive narrative project with my projection-mapping group, Inspiration Burns was an award-winning installation taking place within the Edinburgh Burns Monument. Seven multi-planed animations were mapped to fill the monument from floor to ceiling. An ephemeral narrative was constructed intertwining the life of the poet and his works, and a reactive soundscape included recorded Burns singers which changed with each iteration.

"hewn from nature"

Project Lifehouse brought worlds of animation to two halls of the University of Edinburgh's Anatomical Museum, breathing life into static structures, including the Museum's collections of skeletons and statues, in a celebration of the mysteries of anatomy. Visitors who dared find their way in the darkness were able to trigger reactive animations, via hidden motion-sensors, and fully mapped animations sprang from the shadows.

"i said, 'you, on the other side- let her go..."

Edinburgh International Film Festival : Atmosphere - Hellboy was an immersive projection mapping display played in conjuction with Hellboy for the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2012 Atmosphere series. 3D backgrounds, weather effects, colours and special effects were used to draw the audience into the mood of Guillermo del Toro's masterpiece.

Ami Bogin is a narrative artist who animates, illustrates, makes comics, and tells stories in every possible way. Her immersive experiences, in conjunction with the group House Chimeric, are award-winning, site-specific works intended to imbue a sense of narrative to a structure, and allow the audience to interact with it in return.

  • Because I was not formally trained in an art school setting, I go to many life drawing classes to help improve my art

From personal pieces to commercial work, my style is often based on fanciful and imaginary characters with ligne claire settings. I am influenced by works of European and Asian modern artists, as well as the American indie artist culture. I enjoy animals as characters but I also like to experiment with people in varying degrees of cartoon style. I love to incorporate atmosphere in detailed backgrounds, working from sight or memory of the places I've traveled or lived in.

I also enjoy sequential art because, like animation, it is a form that plays with the passage of time. In addition to personal and commercial fiction and non-fiction comic projects, I am also the co-founder of NERD Comics, a New York-based collective. We publish our own anthologies, tour at comic conventions together, and host monthly meetups to encourage and engage the comic artist community. I can work with physical mediums with pencil, inks, and brush, or on the computer in full color with a Wacom tablet.

Mediums used: Pens and pencils, Markers, Watercolours, Adobe Photoshop CS5, Adobe Illustrator CS5

2012 graduate with distinction of university of edinburgh's design and digital media msc presented for your kind consideration auilix@gmail.com

I love to create narrative worlds, particularly in situated forms of media, and I do not constrain myself through one form or medium to do so. My installation experience is a mix of animation, storyboarding, video editing, projection mapping, and interactive programming, as well as hands-on site setup, including audio/visual rigging and site build. I enjoy being pushed to my limits, physically and mentally, and I am a quick learner. I am a dual citizen of the US and EU, and can live and work in either area without restriction. I have made toys, wrote books, and lived in four different countries. I love to lose sleep working on something I'm passionate about.
